Great Video Ideas

So you want to do a video for your website, but you are not sure what your video should be, right? Starting out can be difficult, so the best thing to do is something simple, something easy, and something affordable. Here's an idea... tell your audience who you are, why you do what you do, and how you would love to help them accomplish their goals.

A simple, About Us video is a great way to start using video in your marketing efforts. Create a simple message geared to your customers and get in front of the camera and tell them about you and how you can be of help. Most importantly, call them to action at the end of the video. Here's a simple About Us video we did for Colman Electric...

Of course, there's many different types of videos you can produce to help promote your business. Need help brainstorming ideas for your next video? Take a look at this article on Brainshark.

Best Holiday Videos

Despite the stresses, most people love the holiday season and nothing shows the spirit better than a heart warming video. There's so many good reasons to do a video, from marketing your goods and services, to fundraising for a good cause, or to just show love and appreciation to employees and customers. Every year there some amazing videos produced and posted on Youtube for all to see, and the reasons are just as varied as the people and companies that create them. Check out this list of Youtube's Top 10 Holiday Videos for 2013. Last year's winner, WestJet Christmas Miracle, is simply an amazing way to show customer and employee appreciation. Most small businesses can't go to that extent, but it does plant some ideas. For just shear fun, check out the most popular holiday video of all time, Christmas Food Court Flash Mob with nearly 45 million views to date!

Worthy cause videos are a good thing too! Earlier this year, HBSU did a video to help promote the 10th

Annual Ugly Sweater Party held every year to raise funds for the Make A Wish NH Foundation.

Check out the Video Here. This is an awesome event, with more than 1000 people attending last year, and is held at the Derryfield Restaurant in Manchester NH on Sat. December 20th. If you'd like to help support the cause, which grants wishes to very ill children, you can Get Your Tickets Here on Eventbrite. Hope to see you there. Merry Christmas and Happy to Year!

December is Impaired Driving

Prevention Month and

AIDS Awareness Month

National Impaired Driving Prevention Month focuses on both drunk driving and the growing problem of drugged driving. Drugged driving has been overlooked for a number of years, but research shows it may be responsible for more than 20 percent of car crashes. December is especially risky, since there are so many holiday parties with people driving when they shouldn't be. The month is sponsored by SADD, a student group based in Marlborough, MA. If you'd like tosupport them, go their website here http://SADD.Org

December is also AIDS Awareness Month, and though treatment and prevention have come a long way, there's a great need for help. One great organization is Keep A Child Alive, co-founded by performing artist, Alicia Keys and longtime activist, Leigh Blake. Watch this Video to learn more. Video Tips For You

If you are going to write a video script, keep your script short and succinct. I always go by the rule of 3... Tell the target audience what they will see and hear, show and tell them, then tell them again

what you showed them. This helps reinforce your message.

If it is a commercial, make sure you deliver a compelling message that delivers the desired results. Grab their attention right away, then call them to action! Scripts usually go through multiple revisions, but once it is finalized, you can schedule your talent and shooting dates. Be sure to check out your location ahead of time, for lighting, spacing, sound quality, and access to electricity.

  • "I am extremely pleased with the videography work of Michael Connell at HBSU.  I contacted him just a few days before performing in a live symphonic concert at Boston's Wilbur Theater, hoping to find someone to film the show.  He was very quick to respond and not only captured excellent HD footage from multiple angles, but also took care of recording audio directly into the live mixing board - something I hadn't even thought of!  He was a professional in every sense of the word, and I wouldn't hesitate to use his services again."

  • I was initially overwhelmed with the project of scheduling and shooting videos of 16 of our doctors and providers. But working with Mike was extremely easy--his flexibility and low-key professionalism made the entire project come together easily over 4 separate shooting days. He put the subjects at ease which allowed them to talk easily about their passion for medicine. I am happy to have found such a great resource for future video projects.

  • Easy set up and cordination. The quality of the video was excellent and the finished product was handed over in a short turn around! Would use his expertise again and would definitely recommend his services.
